Why this film matters
The filmmaking question is unusually specific: how can a generated image preserve something of a real person’s behavior while depicting an event that was never filmed? The project locates its emotional stakes in Burt and Ethelle Shatz’s relationship, rather than in the novelty of artificial imagery.
How the reconstruction works
Technical lead Michael Chang describes restoring photographs of the couple when young, then mapping present-day mannerisms onto younger likenesses using performance-capture models. Ethelle helped correct details in the reconstructed setting. The disclosed process therefore combines visual references, embodied behavior and a subject’s judgment.
These are newly made interpretations of memory, not recovered archival images. The source does not name exact model versions or establish a complete team count.
