Beyond Wukong premiered on Mango TV and Hunan Satellite TV on August 31, 2026. The initial release contains five episodes of approximately 40 minutes; a planned 30-episode run is not the same as thirty released episodes.
Why this series matters
The demanding part of a series is keeping a world available for the next story. Li Dongshen’s interview emphasizes that characters, settings and visual decisions can be reused, lowering the cost of later episodes. That is a more useful production observation than a generic claim that AI is cheap.
The reported 109 characters and 143 environments make continuity a substantial creative responsibility. This is also a nearly hundred-person production: the evidence supports a changing studio workflow, not a claim that professional roles have disappeared.
The human layer
The director describes human control over writing, character and emotion, together with human dubbing. Generated imagery is one part of the production. The director interview is the source for the asset-reuse argument and reported economics. Availability and subtitles vary by region.
